Charlotte Odean Smith Taylor, 89, of Monticello, formerly of Selma, passed on February 5, 2017 at The Woods Nursing and Rehab Facility in Monticello.

She was born April 30, 1927 at Selma to the late Milton Baylock Smith and Ruth Posey Smith.

Mrs. Taylor was the widow of Billy Taylor, and worked for Selma Mercantile for many years. She was later co-owner of Taylor Grocery Store at Selma with her late husband. She enjoyed yard work and was an immaculate housekeeper. She loved playing basketball and played for Tillar High School back in the day. She loved Selma, where she grew up.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell Smith and Roy Smith and one sister, Mary Helen Bradshaw.

Survivors include one brother, Jimmy Smith of Selma; two nephews, Stanley Smith and James Roy Smith; four nieces, Linda Lake, Patricia Cook, Suzie Cooper and Penny Scharf, other relatives and friends.

Graveside service will be held on February 8 at 2 p.m. at Selma Cemetery.
