State Police are investigating a Thursday morning accident in Drew County where a 10-year-old child was struck by a southbound vehicle on U.S. 425 North while attempting to cross the highway to board a northbound Drew Central school bus, according to a news release from the Drew County Sheriff’s Office.

The child, who reportedly was struck by the sideview mirror of the vehicle, sustained several broken bones. The child was transported to a local hospital and would be transferred to a Little Rock hospital. The child is expected to make a full recovery, according to the news release.

Around 6:15 a.m. Drew County deputies were dispatched to the Montongo area, north of Monticello, where the accident occurred. The deputies received conflicting reports from the driver of the vehicle and the school bus. Some reports from eyewitnesses said the school bus had not come to a complete stop as the child ran across the road, according to the news release.

State Police are investigating the accident.

“Sheriff Gober extends our thoughts and prayers to the victim, victim’s family, and all involved in the accident,” a Drew County Sheriff’s Office spokesman wrote in the news release.
