Claude Hancock, Jr., 88 of Monticello, passed away on September 29, 2014 at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock.
He was a World War II United States Navy veteran, a retired forester with International Paper Company, and a faithful member of Second Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He was a fox hunter, loved gardening and working in his yard where he raised flowers of all kinds.
He was born June 7, 1926 in Maulden, Missouri and was the son of the late Claude Hancock, Sr. and Edith Matthews Hancock.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hancock was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Wright Hancock of Monticello; a son, Mark Hancock and wife Sandra of Monticello; two daughters, Linda Devine and husband Eugene and Lisa Pennington all of Monticello; a brother, Billy Joe Hancock of Monticello; nine grandchildren, Amy Sikes and Matthew Devine, Lindsey Hancock, Kacie Cingolani, Holly Hancock, Sydney Pennington, Jaci Pennington, Tana Neathery and Ryan Williams; three great-grandchildren, Lola, Kadince and Sophie; and an expectant great-grandson, Dean.
Funeral services will be held October 2 at 10 a.m. at Stephenson Dearman Funeral Home in Monticello. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery.
Visitation is October 1 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
