A Fountain Hill woman is being held on a $1,000 bond after a motorist rescued her children from the middle of U.S. 425 on August 5 at 7 a.m.

After seeing the 19-month-old and 3-year-old on the busy U.S. highway, inside the Fountain Hill city limits about 100 yards from their home, the passing motorist took the children to an off-duty Ashley County deputy’s home and called 911, according to Ashley County Detective Bobby Linder.

Linder said the children’s mother, Jessica Knuckles was sleeping and had no idea where the children were. The children’s father, Joshua Hickam was at work.

Both Knuckles and Hickam were arrested following interviews and an search and inspection of their home where police found exposed copper wiring and drug paraphernalia in the children’s bedroom, according to Linder.

Both were arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and endangering the welfare their children. Knuckles is still being held on a $1,000 bond and her husband, Joshua Hickam had been released on a $1,000 bond, Linder said Wednesday.
