The Crossett Christmas Celebration will be held on December 5. The festivities begin at 5 p.m., followed immediately by the Christmas Downtown Celebration beginning at about 6:30 p.m.
Area residents and visitors are encouraged to park their cars and enjoy the parade, then stroll through the many Christmas festivities and take advantage of the holiday specials offered by many of the merchants. Parade goers can do some Christmas shopping while enjoying refreshments and visiting with family and friends.
“The evening parade, which we began doing several years ago, has been very well received,” said Pam Hipp, director of the Crossett Chamber of Commerce. “There’s just something about the early dark, crisp air that adds to the twinkle and artistry of the parade and makes the Christmas parade unique from any other held throughout the year.”
The parade will follow the same route this year as it has since making the time change. It will leave the Cap Gates Arena, traveling west on Third Avenue all the way to the traffic light at Third and Main. The parade will then take a left and travel south on Main, ending in the Norman Middle School parking lot.
This year’s theme is “Santa’s Workshop”, a theme chosen by popular vote through an online poll open to the community, according to Hipp.
“The idea with this theme is that each participating organization will select a particular part or department of Santa’s Workshop as their focus,” she explained. “The hope is that we’ll see a lot of ingenuity in the toys that Santa and his elves will have on parade that night.”
There will be two categories for parade float entries: Non-profit and Business and Professional/Industry. First, second and third places will be awarded in each category. Those who wish to enter a float in the parade, is encouraged to contact the Chamber office as early as possible. The deadline for entry is Wednesday, December 3, and entrants will have to select a unique workshop area.
Immediately following the parade, the downtown celebration activities begin. The Chamber encourages everyone to stay for the excitement. There will be a number of unique vendors, a variety of foods and desserts and activities, including photos with Santa, Christmas Movies in the Park and much more. Individuals or groups who would like to perform, set up a booth or volunteer to help the night of the event, should call the Chamber office to sign up.
