[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Arkansas Forest Resources Center, in conjunction with the University of Arkansas of Monticello School of Forest Resources and the Southern Research Station of the US Forest Service, will provide two days of forestry-related information for foresters and landowners at the historic Crossett Experimental Forest in Ashley County.
The program will include a Forester’s Workshop on the afternoon of May 16, to provide professional-level training on the growth and yield of naturally regenerated pine forests, management alternatives, biomass and bioenergy, and new opportunities for carbon contracts and other ecosystem services. The Forester’s Workshop will offer four continuing forestry education (CFE) credits for those attending the entire program.
Sign-in for the Forester’s Workshop will begin at noon at the Crossett Experimental Forest office located at 4472 Highway 133 South in Crossett. The program will start shortly after noon and run until 5 p.m. A catered dinner will be provided to attendees at 5 p.m.
On the morning of May 17, a Landowner’s Workshop on many of the same topics (forest production, biomass and bioenergy, ecosystem services and management options, carbon contracts) will be presented to landowners and other persons interested in the forests of southeastern Arkansas.
The Landowner’s Workshop will be geared towards helping non-professionals develop a better understanding of the multiple opportunities and options available for the management of their pine-dominated forests.
Sign-in for the Landowner’s Workshop will start at 8 a.m. May 17. The program begins at 9 a.m. and runs until noon. Coffee and doughnuts will be provided prior to the workshop and a catered lunch will be provided after the workshop.
A $15 registration fee per person for the Forester’s Workshop includes the cost of on-site transportation, refreshments, dinner, and the CFE credits.
The $10 registration fee for the Landowner’s Workshop includes the cost on-site transportation, refreshments, and catered lunch, but no CFE credits.
Preregistration is strongly encouraged, as attendance to either workshop will be limited to the first 100 registrants. On-site registration the day of the event is possible, but an additional $10 per person fee will be charged. There will be no refunds of registration fees for cancellations after April 25.
A detailed program and registration materials are available for download at the Crossett Forestry Field Day’s website.
