Crossett head football coach Greg Johnson resigned Monday morning, following a 21-0 loss to Hamburg Friday night during which a fight broke out among Hamburg and Crossett players at the end of the third quarter.
After the football game, Johnson told Crossett School District Superintendent Dr. Bruce Bryant that he would no longer be the head football coach at Crossett, effective immediately.
In a meeting with Bryant Monday morning, Johnson verbally resigned and indicated that he would produce a written resignation by the end of the day. The Crossett School Board will meet Monday night to consider the resignation and the naming of an interim head coach.
“The district will continue its focus on the renewed tradition of excellence in athletics and academics through a keen focus, positive attitude, and hard work,” Bryant wrote in a Monday news release. “The naming of a new or interim head coach and providing a smooth transition in staffing will be vital parts of continuing the vision in Crossett.”
The news release did not indicate why Johnson resigned.
