The Crossett School Board has approved a one-year contract, hiring Tommy Tyler as the new superintendent of the Crossett School District.

Tyler, a former assistant superintendent at the Monticello School District, most recently served as superintendent of the Fouke School District where he retired in 2011.

Tyler replaces Norman Hill, the Crossett School District’s business manager who was serving in an interim capacity after previous superintendent Dr. Bruce Bryant was suspended. The district ultimately bought the final year of Bryant’s contract.

“I am pleased Tommy has decided to come to Crossett,” Hill said. “We worked well together at Monticello and I’m looking forward to working with him at Crossett.”

At Crossett, their roles will be reversed. When Hill and Tyler worked together at Monticello, Hill was the superintendent and Tyler was the assistant superintendent. At Crossett, Tyler will be the superintendent and Hill is the business manager.

Tyler’s annual salary is $110,000 with several benefits including a car for business and professional use, a cell phone, and a housing allowance of $1,000 per month. His contract runs from July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013. The board has the option to renew or enter into a new contract with Tyler after one year.
