An Ashley County man died and a Stuttgart man was injured Friday in a head-on collision on U.S. 165 in Lonoke County
Ashley Meeks, 48, of Crossett, was traveling south on U.S. 165, approaching Johnson Road, Friday morning when his truck crossed the center line of the highway and collided with a 2007 Kenworth driven by William Jones, 28, of Stuttgart, according to an Arkansas State Police preliminary accident report.
Upon impact, the Kenworth that Jones was driving left the west side of the roadway and burst into flames while the truck Meeks was driving spun around and came to rest facing northeast and blocking the southbound traffic lane, according to the accident report.
Meeks was killed in the accident and Jones was taken to Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
The accident occurred on January 15 at 9:49 a.m. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the accident, according to the the accident report.
At least 21 people have died on Arkansas roads this year, according to preliminary figures.
