The first leg of the $1 million Delta Challenge sporting clay tournament series, the Delta International Open, will be held this week at the Delta Conference Center & Resort, Gary Gibbs’ 3,200-acre facility near Tillar.
The $1 million sporting clay tournament series includes four individual tournaments, each paying $175,000 and leading up to a $300,000 shootout in September.
Sporting clay is a clay target-shooting regimen with far more demands that the familiar skeet and trap. It is designed to simulate actual hunting conditions. Targets are thrown at varying angles and directions in contrast to the fixed avenues for skeet and trap.
The first leg of the Delta Challenge, the Delta International Open, will be held March 21-25. The second leg of the tournament, the Delta Global Games, will be held May 2-6, followed by the third leg, Delta FITASTIC on August 7-11 and finally the fourth leg of the tournament, the Delta Classic on September 26-30. The $300,000 Delta Challenge Shootout will be the last day of the Delta Classic.
