The Drew County Democratic Party will hold a Special County Convention to select its nominee for mayor of the City of Monticello in the upcoming May 9 Special Mayoral Election, according to a Drew County Democratic Party news release.
The convention will be held on Monday, February 13 at 6 p.m. at the Drew County Courthouse.
State and county party rules will guide the procedure for the special county convention. Each current member of the Drew County Democratic Committee will serve as a delegate to the special convention.
Candidates seeking the party’s nomination, must be nominated from the floor of the convention by the delegates, and receive a majority vote of the total delegates present. Nominees are expected to present candidacy speeches at the convention, according to the news release.
Monticello Mayor Zack Tucker resigned on January 17. Former Mayor David Anderson will serve as interim mayor until the special mayoral election in May.
