The Desha County 4-H Fishing Derby will be held on April 30 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Wiley McGehee City Park.

The fishing derby is open to all Desha County youth between the ages of 5 and 19.

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will be stocking the pond adjacent to the viaduct.

Prizes will be awarded to the top fishers following the event.

There will be a limited number of rods and reels available for check out, and youth will need to provide their own bait.

Immediately following the fishing derby, the City of McGehee will plant a tree in recognition of Arbor Day. There will be additional displays on ATV safety, wildlife education and 4-H clubs.

“If you want to learn more about what 4-H has to offer Desha county, please plan on attending this fun event; rain or shine, the fish will be biting,” said Hope Bragg.

The 4-H fishing derby, and all other 4-H activities, are open to all eligible persons regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, gender, disability, marital or veteran status, or any other legally protected status.
