With the school year back in full swing, the various community clubs offered by Desha County Extension are reorganizing and recruiting new members.

EHC

Community service is one of the many activities the EH Clubs pride themselves in.

The purpose of the clubs is to give interested persons an opportunity to participate in the Family and Consumer Sciences educational program of the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service.

Participants in an EH Club will have the opportunity to learn topics such as: cultural arts, family and human development, home and community environment, leadership development, nutrition, health and wellness, public relations, resource management, and special community service projects. Participants also will have the opportunity to attend district and state level events.

The following list is of current Desha County EH Clubs, and when and where they meet:

The McGehee EH Club meets the third Tuesday of each month at the Desha County Extension Office located at 310 Oak Street in McGehee beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The Travelers EH Club meets the first Wednesday of every month at 2:00 p.m. at the Desha County Extension Office located at 310 Oak Street in McGehee.

Also, the Desha County 4H clubs are reorganizing and seeking new members. The purpose of these clubs is to give youth ages 5-19 an opportunity to participate in the youth development educational program of the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service. Youth in 4H clubs will learn life skills, enhance leadership skills, and increase self esteem while serving in a number of community service projects. Youth in 4H clubs have an opportunity to compete in a number of competitive activities, attend camps, and earn scholarships for education. The following is a list of current Desha County 4H clubs, and when and where they meet:

Pride of McGehee meets the third Monday of every month at 3:30 p.m. at the County Extension Office.

Foodology Club meets the fourth Tuesday of every month at 3:30 p.m. at the County Extension Office.

Machines of McGehee meets alternate Thursdays at 3:30 in the County Extension Office.

Horsing Around Club meeting times and location to be determined at a later date.

Dumas New Tech High Robotics Club meets with the pre-calculus and calculus classes at the Dumas New Tech High School throughout the school year.

Digging 4-H meets quarterly to work on archeological explorations. For information on the next meeting time, contact the county office.

Delta 4H Shooting Sports Club is still in the forming stages, so meeting times and location will be determined at a later date.
