An Ashley County man suspected of having sex with two female relatives, impregnating one of them, has been charged with two counts of rape.
Kenneth Earl Moore, 40, of Portland, is alleged to have had sexual intercourse in October 2012 with a 14-year-old relative. The girl subsequently gave birth and a paternity test determined that Moore is the father of that child, according to a State Crime Lab report.
“The probability of paternity is 99.99 percent,” Forensic DNA examiner Kelli Dixon wrote in the report.
Moore, also charged with raping a 13-year-old female relative in January 2013, is alleged to have engaged in sexual intercourse with the 14-year-old relative and engaged in sexual intercourse or deviate sexual activity with the 13-year-old.
“Typically, statutory rape only applies for children under 14 but since this victim is a member of the family, the age is extended to children under 18, in other words, any minor,” 10th Judicial District Prosecutor Thomas Deen explained.
If convicted, Moore faces 10 to 40 years or life in prison for each count.
Circuit Judge Sam Pope on Monday set Moore’s bond at $50,000.
