Doris Marie Shelby Barnes Yost, 81, of Monticello, passed away on March 2, 2015 at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello.
She was a private caregiver and a member of Second Baptist Church of Monticello. She loved gardening, growing roses and was well known in her neighborhood for her beautiful flowers and garden. She also loved doing crafts such as knitting hats, booties and scarves and loved sharing her work with people. She was a very giving person and loved her family, always making sure they were taken care of, and was a devoted grandmother.
She was born in Cornersville on December 1, 1933 to the late Dossie Shelby and Ruby Bonner Moore. She was also preceded in death by the father of her children, Mervin Barnes; her husband, Lawrence Yost; one brother, Billy Shelby; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary Anne and Garland Garrison.
Survivors include two sons, Buddy Barnes and wife Billie of Strong and Frank Barnes also of Strong; her daughter, Gloria Chadwick and husband Wayne of Strong; three brothers, Vernon, Richard and Curtis Moore of North Little Rock; one sister, Carolyn King of El Paso, Arkansas; five grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on March 6 at 11 a.m. at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel in Monticello with burial to follow at Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be March 5 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
