Dorothy Tyler Gavin, 88, of Dumas, passed away on March 17, 2020.
She was born on April 28, 1931 in Rison to the late Florence and William Tyler.
Mrs. Gavin was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Charles Gavin and daughter-in-law, Vanessa Gavin.
She is survived by her children, Brenda (Eddie) Anderson of Oakland, Tennessee, Don Gavin of Katy, Texas, Sherry (Allen) Bird of Little Rock, and stepdaughter, Becky (Bob) Horton of Lakeland, Tennessee; her sisters, Frances Wilson of Rison and Marie Sadler Bennett of Little Rock, formerly of Pine Bluff; grandchildren, Karie Perkins, Randy Perkins, Terri (Corey) Shapuras, Melissa (Chris) Pope and Lisa Gavin; seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Gavin was a proud military wife who her husband, Charles during his 23 years of service, posted at the Pine Bluff Arsenal, Japan, Arizona, and Germany. Upon Charles’ retirement from the US Army, they moved to Dumas where they were welcomed with loving and open arms and where she lived for 55 years.
Mrs. Gavin worked for the United Dollar Store corporate office and retired from the Dollar General Store distribution center.
The family has elected to have a private funeral service due to virus health concerns for friends and family.
