Dr. Clayton Morrell Jones, 84, of Monticello, passed away December 2, 2020, at his home in Monticello.
He was born June 5, 1936, in Coleman (Drew County) to the late Jimmy Jones and Nora Tucker Jones.
He was a retired educator with 60-plus years of service and a member of Second Baptist Church. Dr. Jones loved the outdoors and raising flowers and plants. He was a member of the Arkansas Education Association, Arkansas Early Childhood Association and was very involved in Project Wild with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Ollie Jones; his wife, Virginia M. Jones; and a brother, Tom Jones.
Survivors include three sons, Bobby Jones, Billy Jones and Larry Jones all of Monticello; one daughter, Deborah West of Wilmar; one brother, Jimmy Jones of Newport; eight grandchildren, Tim West, Megan Jones, Tabatha Shoaf, Leslie Forrest, Matthew West, Charles Jones, Virginia Clause and Tyleer Jones; and seventeen grandchildren.
A graveside service following Covid-19 guidelines will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 5, at the Pleasant Springs Cemetery with Rev. Ray Hearron officiating.
Memorials are preferred to the Dr. C. Morrell Jones Endowment Fund at the University of Arkansas at Monticello.
