Dr. Richard “Dick” Norton Lamb, 85, of Birmingham, Alabama, formerly of Monticello, passed away on September 21, 2015.
He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Ferdinand “Fred” Richard Lamb and Marjorie Norton Chamberlin, but grew up in Monticello.
He entered Yale University at the age of 17, with sophomore status, and earned his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering. He received his medical degree at Harvard, completed his residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and practiced as a board-certified Internal Medicine specialist in Birmingham.
Dr. Lamb was a member and active supporter of Gideons International and faithfully attended Shades Mountain Bible Church, where he often led its mission ministry. He more recently worshipped at Indian Springs First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, LaVerne Lamb of Birmingham, Alabama; his son, Andrew “Andy” (Alisa) Lamb of Greenville, SC; his daughters, Laura (Tim) Atkins of Birmingham, Alabama and Lydia (Ron) Smith of Huntsville, Alabama; and nine grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on September 28 at 9 a.m. at Leek Cemetery in Star City.
