The Drew County Democratic Central Committee will host a candidates’ night hamburger cookout on April 21 at 5:30 p.m. at the McCloy Park pavilion. All opposed Democratic candidates on Drew County ballots will be invited to speak, according to Delbert Farrar, chairman of the Drew County Democratic Central Committee.
There will be 53 Democratic candidates on Drew County ballots and 33 of those have opponents. Those with opponents will be allowed to speak for three minutes each, Farrar said.
The committee will also provide free hamburgers, chips and drinks on an first-come, first-served basis to 300 attendees.
Information about the candidates will be available at a special candidates’ table and a voter registration table will be on site for those who have not registered to vote.
“Deadline to register to vote is April 23 so this will probably be the last oppoortunty to register unless they go by the county clerk’s office,” said Arlene Russell, a member of the Drew County Democratic Central Committee.
Early voting for the May 22 primary begins on May 7. at the Drew County Court house. A runoff election, if needed, will be June 12.
