The Drew County Democratic Committee is accepting applications from Monticello Ward 4 residents interested in becoming the party’s nominee for the Ward 4, Position 2 seat on the Monticello City Council. The term begins on January 1, 2017.
The party’s nominee, the late Dr. Tim Chase, died in April, six weeks after the March 1 primary election.
Chase’s widow, Paige Chase, has been appointed by the city council to serve out the remainder of his current term, which ends on December 31, 2016 and has expressed an interest in running for the seat for the upcoming two-year term.
The Democratic committee will hold a meeting on Monday, June 13, at 6 p.m. in the courtroom at the Drew County Courthouse. At that time, any Ward 4 residents who are interested in the council seat may make a brief presentation to the committee. Nominations will be made by the committee and a vote taken for the person to fill the seat that night.
The seat will be filled by a Democrat, as the Republican party did not field a candidate in the primary.
Anyone who is interested in being named to the seat should contact Drew County Democratic Committee Chairman Damon Lampkin at 870-723-3084 before June 11.
