The Drew County Republican committee will meet in a special called county convention on February 7 to nominate a candidate for the upcoming special election for mayor of Monticello, according to a news release from the Drew County Republican Party.

The convention will be held at 6 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce building on East Gaines.

Any Republican candidate interested in seeking this position should contact the party chairman, Brian Jones by email at [email protected] In order to be eligible to run you must live in the city limits of Monticello, be 18 years of age and a registered voter. The filing fee will be set at this meeting as well, according to the news release.

The special election will be held on May 9.

Monticello Mayor Zack Tucker resigned on January 17. Former Mayor David Anderson is currently serving as interim mayor,
