A Drew County man who is alleged to have improperly touched a 7-year-old girl in his camper last month is facing possible second-degree sexual assault charges, according to Lt. Tim Nichols, a criminal investigator with the Drew County Sheriff’s Office.
Nichols said Tony Glynn Irons, 46, initially denied the allegation, but during an interview said, “the child wouldn’t lie about something like that”.
“A polygraph was scheduled at the request of Irons and the Sheriff’s Office,” Nichols said. “During that procedure, Irons admitted to improperly touching the child.”
Irons was arrested and is being held in the Drew County Detention Center. His first appearance hearing is set for Friday, Nichols said.
The allegation was investigated by the sheriff’s office and the Crimes Against Children division of the Arkansas State Police. The arrest was not Irons’ first brush with the law. He was sentenced in 2013 to eight years in prison for the 2012 burglary of a Monticello business and subsequently released on parole.
