The Drew County Salvation Army will begin its annual kettle drive this month to raise funds for those in need. “Our current mission is utility assistance and some emergency (fire) assistance and we pay the vendors directly,” said Jennifer McCarthy, Drew County Salvation Army volunteer treasurer.
During the 2010-2011 Red Kettle Drive, where you see the familiar bell ringers during the holiday season, the Drew County Salvation Army raised $18,900 and spent $17,865. The expenditures included $15,925 for direct community support and $1,940 for operating expenses. The Salvation Army’s fiscal year runs from January 1 through September 30.
“Thank you for your continued support, without you we couldn’t serve your fellow citizens without you,” McCarthy said in a news release announcing the 2011-2012 kettle drive.
The 2011-2012 kettle drive begins on November 18 at the Wal Mart Supercenter on U.S. 425 North.
