The Drew Single Parent Scholarship Board recently named six single parents as 2015 Spring scholarship recipients.
The recipients are LaKala Lambert, Cedterria Thompson, Christa McDaniel, Reshanae Crift, Soncerra James and JaQuella Gaines.
Each full time student received $500 awards and part-time students received $250.
Drew County Scholarship Board awarded $2,750.00 in scholarships this year and $82,720.70 since the local board’s inception in 1992.
The Drew County Single Parent Scholarship Committee asks Drew County residents to continuously support the effort to provide scholarships to single parents. With each $1 donation, the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund matches it with $1.60.
Local board members and officers are Clarissa Pace, chairman; Lou Lambert, vice chairman; Sharonda Forte, secretary/treasurer; Angelia Anderson, assistant secretary; Anita Riley, publicity chairman; Vicky Harris, fundraising chairman; and members Carol Moore, Hazelene McCray, Beverly Burks, Jennifer Donaldson Franklin, Kim Simmons Smith, and Tawana Greene.
The Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund was established in 1990, providing assistance to a diverse group of racial, economic and geographic areas. As a community-based organization, the scholarship board believes that single-parent families led by skilled and educated mothers or fathers have a much greater opportunity to achieve self-sufficiency resulting in an improved quality of life, from generation to generation.
