The Drew County United Way is collecting new donated “back-to-school” items for local elementary and middle school students who cannot afford them, according to Tony Cooper, a Drew County United Way board member.

Anyone interested in donating school supplies or personal articles may drop off the items in bins at the Wal Mart Supercenter in Monticello. Bins will be located at both Wal Mart entrances through August 9.

Needed items include back packs, pencils and pens, pencil cases, scissors, composition paper, crayons and color pencils, construction paper, glue and glue sticks, erasers, binders, rulers, book covers, art pads, toothpaste, toothbrushes, band-aids, socks and underwear. The items must be new.
