Drew County voters, in a low turnout Tuesday, approved a ballot proposal to extend for six years its 1-cent countywide sales tax.

The tax, which will be used for the continued maintenance of county roads and potentially other county needs as determined by the quorum court, passed with 626 voting for the tax and 172 against, according to the final, unofficial results.

The county, at the discretion of the Drew County Quorum Court, may utilize up to 25 percent of the sales tax revenue for other county needs, such as the rising cost of operating the Drew County Detention Center.
