State Police arrested a Jacksonville man Wednesday morning in connection with the March 19 shooting at a car show in Dumas.

Brandon Deandra Knight, 22, of Jacksonville was taken into custody at 9:40 a.m. as he was being released from a Dumas hospital, according to State Police.

Knight is charged with first degree battery and aggravated assault. He is being held at the Dumas jail where he is awaiting a first appearance court hearing set for Thursday, police said.

The state police investigation remains in an active status. Additional information about the arrest is not currently available.

Wounded count at Dumas shooting updated

State Police have confirmed 27 people were wounded by gunfire at the Saturday shooting at a car show in Dumas.

The list of wounded individuals includes the name of Cameron Shaffer, 23, of Jacksonville who died at the Dumas hospital, according to State Police.

During a news conference on Sunday, the number of wounded was reported to be 28. The discrepancy appears to be the result of one person admitted to a local hospital and transferred to another hospital.

Among the wounded are five children ranging in age from 19 months to 11 years old.

Sunday afternoon update

The number of people wounded in the Saturday night shooting at Dumas is at least 28, including children.

A 23-year-old Jacksonville man died and at least 28 people were wounded by gunfire that swept across a crowd of people attending a car show Saturday night in Dumas.

Police are searching for two people who are believed to have been involved in a gunfight during the car show. Another person was arrested on unrelated charges.

The identity of the suspects have not been released.

State Police and local law enforcement authorities are investigating the shooting.

In a statement released on Twitter Sunday afternoon, Gov. Asa Hutchinson said he will “examine the details to see if there are any steps that could have been taken to prevent this type of tragedy.”

State Police News Release

Arkansas State Police is assisting the Dumas Police Department in an ongoing investigation of gunfire that swept across a crowd attending a local car show, leaving one person dead, and at least 24 others wounded.

One suspect is in custody and a search is continuing for others who may have fired into the crowd of people Saturday, shortly after 7 p.m. .

Special agents of the State Police criminal investigation division worked through the night interviewing victims and witnesses. State troopers assigned to the Highway Patrol Division are assisting Dumas police officers to restore calm to the community and securing the crime scene along U.S. Highway 65 which runs through the center of the city.
