Duwayne J. Pittman

Duwayne J. Pittman, 72, of Crossett, passed away on April 7, 2018, at the Life Touch Hospice Center in El Dorado.

He was born on August 5, 1945, in Eupora, Mississippi and was the son of the late Marion Harrison and Christine Morgan Elkins Pittman.

Mr. Pittman grew up in a family of nine children in Eupora, was a lifelong member of Walthall Baptist Church and married his sweetheart of 53 years, Ginger Edwards, on May 19, 1965. He was a Mason and served five years in the Mississippi National Guard. In 1967, he accepted a position with Georgia Pacific as the maintenance manager for the Mid Continents Division where, except for five years with International Paper, he spent his long career and eventually retired in 1995.

Mr. Pittman was a compassionate man who would give the shirt off his back to a stranger in need or randomly stop to help a neighbor clean their yard. He was also a very talented builder, whether it was a treehouse for his kids, a wheelchair ramp and accessories for a friend, or the family lake house, he could create and build just about anything, but most of all he focused on building and nurturing his relationship with his family, who meant everything to him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Pittman, and six brothers, Johnny Elkins, James Elkins, Jerry Elkins, Hugh Elkins, M.H. Pittman, and Buddy Pittman.

He is survived by his wife, Ginger Pittman of Crossett; one son, Duwayne Pittman, Jr. and wife, Suzanne, of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Mackie Ozment and special son-in-law, Chuck, of Crossett; one sister, Sherry Pittman Moreland and husband, Dan, of Starkville, Mississippi; one brother, Robert Pittman of Eupora, Mississippi; six grandchildren, Jack Pittman, Erikson Pittman, Kenton Pittman, Joe Ruesewald, Grant Ozment, and Julia Ozment; along with two great-grandchildren, Blayze and Kently Pittman.

Visitation will be Monday, April 9 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Medders Funeral Home, located at 1564 Highway 52 W, in Crossett.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, April 10 at 10 a.m. at Medders Funeral Home with pastors Lyle Hern and Jamie Staley officiating, followed by an interment at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Eupora, Mississippi under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.
