Edna Lavearn Ballard, 82, of Dermott, passed away on January 20, 2018 in Monticello.
She was born in Rison and was the daughter of the late Ted Clarence and Alma Josephine Cranford Laws.
Mrs. Ballard was a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Monticello and the University of Arkansas with a major in business education and a minor in art. She taught school at Parkdale and was the principal there. She also worked at the Adult Education Program in Eudora for many years. She was one of the three founding members of the Master Gardener Program in Southeast Arkansas.
Mrs. Ballard was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Dermott where she taught Sunday School for many years.
Other than her parents, Mrs. Ballard was preceded in death by her husbands, Roger Mack Stringfellow and Billy Nat Ballard; sons, Dennis Ted Stringfellow and Carroll Bruce Stringfellow; brothers, Tommy Laws and Edward Laws; sisters, Dean Henderson, Jean Hutchinson and Jeanette Browning; step-grandson, Bryce Stringfellow.
Survivors include sons, Wade (Trudy) Stringfellow of Monticello, Mitchell (Tina) Stringfellow of Hampton, and Phillip (Sherry) Stringfellow of Dermott; a daughter Mitzi (William) Cantwell of White Hall; step-children, Ronnie Stringfellow, Rickey (Linda) Stringfellow and Sherry McElyea all of Hampton; sister, Bernice Ortega of Lone Star, Texas; daughters-in-law, Melinda Stringfellow of Hampton and Linda Stringfellow of Monticello; 14 grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 23 from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at Temple Baptist Church in Dermott. Funeral service will be held at the church at 10 a.m., following visitation, with Rev. Bob Franklin officiating.
Burial will be at Pickett Cemetery on County Road 27 in Hampton at 2 p.m.
