He was a graduate of Dermott High School and Arkansas State University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in business. He served in the United States Army and was the owner and operator of Ed Sims Construction Company. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Mr. Sims was born in Rosedale, Mississippi to the late Dennis and Audrey Gill Sims.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Sims; daughter, Ashley (Nick) Karamis of Acworth, Georgia; son, Scott (Kelly) Sims of Monroe, Georgia; brother, Jack Sims of Sri Lanka; sisters, Beverly Wilkins of Denver, Colorado and Carol Bachhuber of Rockford, Illinois; grandchildren, Caroline Karamis, Payton Sims and Parker Sims.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 16 at 2 p.m. at Griffin-Culpepper Funeral Service in McGehee.
