Elizabeth Swan Woods, 88, of Hamburg, passed away on May 13, 2018, at her home.
She was born on December 2, 1929, and was the daugher of the late Winford Franklin and Nora Murphy Swan.
Mrs. Woods was a retired school teacher. She began teaching school at an early age and after receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. She taught kindergarten for many years in her backyard and also taught at the Carousel School in Crossett. She was a member of Egypt Missionary Baptist Church, the Eastern Star, and the Gideon’s Auxilliary. She enjoyed studying genealogy, growing flowers, and especially loved to read.
Along with her parents, Mrs. Woods was preceded in death by two husbands, Chester Bowles, and Lexie P. Woods; a son, Neal Bowles; and a sister, Willa Dean “Stumpy” Ray.
She is survived by one son, Philip Bowles, and wife, Wendy, of Hamburg; a daughter, Patricia Lockridge, and husband, Phillip, of Harrison; eight grandchildren, Stephanie Foreman, Brooke Ingram, Ray Dodge, Hali Jeffers, K.C. Lockridge McBride, Sarah Lockridge, Meredith Lockridge, and Richard Bowles; and nine great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, May 17 at 3 p.m. at the Medders Funeral Home in Crossett with Bro. James Morris and her son, Bro. Phillip Bowles, officiating. Interment will follow at Crossroads Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on May 17 from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
