Ellen Lou Pesaresi, of Lake Village, passed away on September 13, 2019 at the Lake Village Rehabilitation and Care Center.
“Mrs. Lou”, as she was affectionately known by the community, was born May 6, 1936 in McGehee and was the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Carpenter.
She married Mike Pesaresi, Jr. on September 25, 1958 in McGehee.
In her earlier years, she was a switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell, where she often eavesdropped on Mike’s conversations. However, Mrs. Lou will be remembered by most, seated behind the cash register at Mike’s Café, the family business. She greeted customers with a beautiful smile and was always concerned about their families and lives. Although she spent a considerable amount of time there, her first love was being a mother and a homemaker. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. Over the years, she collected a large library of cookbooks and was continually on the search for something new to cook. The neighborhood enjoyed gathering in Mrs. Lou’s kitchen to sample her baked goods. Christmas was a very special time for her to share coconut and chocolate pies with friends and family. Her grandchildren loved visiting her and particularly appreciated her nurturing ways, wit and wisdom.
At family gatherings she was the first to pull out the scrabble board. The grandkids were always ready to challenge her “new” words.
Those of who knew her well, will always remember her love for fashion. Mrs. Lou was always stylishly dressed with the appropriate accessories and her hair perfectly styled.
After retirement from the café, she attended weekday Mass and enjoyed meeting with the McDonald’s crowd. She appreciated the simple pleasures of life. A Hallmark movie and a cup of coffee was a great afternoon for her.
Mrs. Lou was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, The Ladies Altar Society and the Shakespeare Club. One of her greatest joys was singing in the Our Lady of the Lake choir.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Mike Pesaresi, Jr.; her children and their spouses Mary Ellen (Joey) Greenway of Boydell, Liz (Freddie) Black of Lake Village, Michael (Kim) Pesaresi of Monticello; six loving grandchildren, John (Natalie) Cannatella, Nina (Adam) Deal, Joseph Greenway, Nathan (Leah) Pesaresi, Olivia Pesaresi, Anna-Marie Pesaresi; a great grandchild, Elijah Cannatella; a sister, Betty Jones; a brother, Terry Carpenter; and a host of nieces and nephews.
