Ercel Franklin Freeman

Ercel “Frank” Franklin Freeman, 99, of Dumas passed away April 11, 2022.

He was born September 14, 1922, in Tyro and was the son of the late John Franklin Freeman and Leota Smith Freeman.

His parents and three sisters Maurine Price, Audley Johnson, and Jane Shalles, all preceded him in death.

Frank was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Dumas where he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher, and lifetime trustee. He was a 32-degree Mason and a member of Lions Club.

Frank was a farmer and owner of Freeman Farms in the Lincoln County area for many years. He was a coach and teacher at the Portland and Dumas school districts, and was the superintendent at Southeast Academy for three years. Frank also served in the United States Navy during World War II.

Survivors are his wife, Nell Campbell Freeman of Dumas; son, John Freeman and wife Rachel of Dumas; three daughters, Nancy Freeman McGraw, and husband Rick of Little Rock, Linda Freeman Cruce and husband Warner of Little Rock and Bettye Ann Freeman of Dumas; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation and service will be held Friday, April 15, at First Baptist Church in Dumas. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. Rev. Dubs Byers and Rev. Reuel Cruce will officiate. Burial will follow at the Dark Corner Cemetery.
