Erma Nell Sampolesi, 85, of Lake Village, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, on August 13, 2019.
She was born on January 23, 1934, the fifth of 10 children, to the late G.W. and Jessie V. Craven in Eudora.
She practiced nursing for many years at Chicot Memorial Hospital. She was a very faithful Communicant of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and served faithfully to the Altar Society until she was no longer able.
Erma Nell was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Gelio Sampolesi in 2006; a daughter-in-law, Regina Fratesi Sampolesi in 2011; five brothers and a sister.
She is survived by her children, Shelia Sampolesi, Lucy Ferri (Steve), Ned Sampolesi (Sharon), Tim Sampolesi (Janie) all of Lake Village, and Melanie Henry (Fred) of Cleveland, Mississippi; 12 grandchildren, Paige Smith, Seth Ferri, Amy Stephens, Savannah Sampolesi, Sam Sampolesi, Jim Craig, Annie Blair, Mary Ashley Talkington, Charles Earl O’Fallon, Marci Adams, Janella Myers and Fred Allan Henry, Jr.; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her sister and devoted caregiver, Alice Allen, who was with her continually for 10 years and provided love and support through life’s ups and downs of her health; her big sister, Louise Hobson, of Lake Village, who provided love and wisdom to her younger sibling; and her younger brother, Jerry Craven of Gulfport, Mississippi.
Erma Nell loved to play a very friendly card-game of canasta and always looked forward to Tuesday afternoon card games with her many friends. She was thankful and appreciative of her many friends that visited her in her home and those that called and sent cards of encouragement while she was limited to her home. She loved and was appreciative to all of her caregivers and the Arkansas Hospice staff for their tender care.
Visitation will be Friday, August 16 at 5 p.m. with Rosary at 6 p.m. at Bishop-King Funeral Home in Lake Village. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, August 17 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Village with Father Stephen Hart as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Isidore Cemetery in Lake Village.
