Ernest Otto Hopmann, Jr., 88, of Dumas, passed away on October 25, 2020.
He was born on February 27, 1932 in Brenham, Texas to Ernest O. Hopmann, Sr. and Laura Schultze Hopmann. The family moved to Houston that same year.
Mr. Hopmann was a 1950 graduate of John Reagan High School in Houston, Texas. He married Rosemary Robertson on February 23, 1951. Soon thereafter, he joined the US Coast Guard and was at sea aboard the USCGC “LOWE” with duty in both the North and South Pacific traveling as far away as Japan. After four years of military service, he attended the University of Houston while working in the oil fields of Texas.
Mr. Hopmann, in 1958, was raised as a 32nd degree Master Mason in the Woodland Masonic Lodge #1157 of Texas where he recently obtained his 60-year membership pin.
He and his wife, Rosemary, moved to Dumas, Arkansas where he began a life of farming. In 1960 he obtained his private pilot’s license.
Mr. Hopmann was preceded in death by his loving wife of almost 69 years, Rosemary, in February of this year; his parents, Ernest and Laura; and one sister, Laura Mae Standifer.
Survivors are his son, Ernest “Bo” Hopmann, III and his wife, Lisa of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Dawne Hill and her husband, James “Tuffy” of Dumas; five grandchildren, Daniel Hill and wife Katie, Wade Hill and wife Whitney, Kristen Siegerist and husband Clayton, Elizabeth Hopmann and Anita Hopmann; and six great grandchildren, Parker Hill, Eli Hill, Woods Hill, Poppy Hill, Rosemary Siegerist and Estelle Siegerist.
Family and friends will gather and celebrate this man’s wonderful life during a visitation beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27, at Walnut Lake Cemetery, Pickens, Arkansas. A graveside service led by Dr. Tandy Hanson will follow at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Ernest Hopmann to the First United Methodist Church, 230 Court St, Dumas, AR 71639.
