Ervin Leo Bottoms

Ervin Leo Bottoms, 80, of Dumas, passed away on December 11, 2021.

He was born March 12,1941 in Bluffton, Arkansas to the late Ervin Bottoms and Myrtle Mae Elliott Bottoms.

Leo, or “Buddy” as he was known by family and friends, grew up in Watson. He dropped out of school in tenth grade but obtained a GED while in the Armed Forces. After completing three years of service in Korea, he returned to Desha County to work as a farm laborer. In 1972, he and Mildred began a successful farming operation of their own from which they retired in 2000.

He was known by many as a crappie fisherman extraordinaire, an avid deer hunter and golfer. He enjoyed each of these hobbies immensely and believed in doing them in style and comfort. He also enjoyed building things. While one of his most well-known pieces was the Tire Man at Back Gate, he also constructed a rotating deer stand, improved upon several pieces of farm equipment, and built numerous toys for his children to play on through the years.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and five sisters.

Survivors are his wife, Mildred Sullivan Bottoms of Dumas, three sons, Howard Bottoms (Sherry), Doyle Bottoms (Karen), and Wayne Bottoms; one daughter, Sunny Hensley (Justin); ten grandchildren, Brandt Bottoms (Fara), Braden Bottoms (Kathleen), Riane Mankin, Bracy Bottoms, Zach Odaware (Lauren), Tasha Robertson, Jonathan Bottoms (Sara), Georgia Wilkerson, Jaclyn Kulbeth (Aaron), Laura Beth Place (Tyler) and fifteen great-grandchildren and by his brother Robert Bottoms and his sister Glenna Long.

A funeral service will be held Monday, December 13, at 10 a.m. at Griffin Funeral Home in Dumas with burial at Walnut Lake Cemetery in Pickens. Tyler Fox will offiiate.
