Ethel Julia Archibald, 98, of Springdale, formerly of Warren, passed away on Saturday December 7, 2013, at the V.A. Hospital in Fayetteville.

She served in the United States Army during World War II and retired as Sergeant First Class in 1971. She served three years in Japan and 17 months in France and behind the lines in Korea before returning to the United States to finish her Army career. She was a lifetime member of the D.A.V., V.F.W. and a charter member of The Women’s Memorial in Washington, D.C.

She was born January 6, 1915 in Sherrill and was the daughter of the late Sandiland Archibald and Mary Elizabeth Gregory Archibald.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Alex, James and Harold Archibald; and sisters, Alice Bradley and Betty Ruth Covington.

She is survived by her nieces, Ruth Beckius, Ruth Ann Davis, Ann Oakley, Connie Houser and Jane Galloway.

A private family burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery at Pine Bluff under the direction of Frazer’s Funeral Home of Warren.
