Florence Estelle King, 87, of Eudora, died Saturday, May 24, 2014 at the Carroll Nursing Home in Oak Grove, La.
Mrs. King was a native of Hamburg and a resident of Eudora since 1945. She was a retired school teacher who taught for 44 years at Ross Van Ness, Wellford Elementary and Eudora schools.
She was a member of the Omega Baptist Church and was very active in the Wellford Community Share Group.
Mrs. King was preceded in death by her husband, Raybon King in 1980; a son, Donald Poole; her parents, Ernest and Lillie Melton Summerland; a brother, Fred Summerland and a sister, Ellen Burdick.
She is survived by two granddaughters, Cheryl Newell and husband, Carlton, of Stephenville, Texas and Christy Poole of Kilbourne, La.; two sisters, Hazel Philpot of Temple, Texas and Audrey Gifford of Austin, Texas; a sister-in-law, Rachel Summerland of Hamburg; a special friend, Linda Knight of Eudora; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be May 27 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Omega Baptist Church in Eudora. Funeral services will be held May 28 at the 4 p.m. at the church with Rev. Trent Allen officiating. Burial will be in the Eden Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Thomas Booth, Derick Booth, Will Booth, Garrett Booth, Kevin Dugan and Sam Dugan. Honorary pallbearers are Keith Summerland, Cleve Summerland, Jerry Poole, Tommy Poole, Pete Poole and James Gifford.
