Jim Lucas, a retired U.S. Army colonel and a former junior high principal and statistician for the Crossett School District, has been named interim principal at Monticello High School.

Lucas, a graduate of Crossett High School and Henderson State University, was assigned to military intelligence while in the Army. Upon his retirement in 1995, Lucas established the JROTC program at El Dorado High School, and later served as principal at Washington Middle School in El Dorado.

In 2006, Lucas returned to Crossett where he was principal of Norman Junior High School for four years. The last two years he was the Crossett School District statistician.

Lucas replaces former Monticello High School principal Kenny Pennington who recently resigned to accept a position with AdvanceED, a nationwide school accreditation service.
