Frances Augusta Nelson Thompson, 98, of Monticello passed away December 4, 2013 at her home in Monticello.
She was born August 12, 1915 in Ludlow, South Dakota to the late Arthur Frank Nelson and Agda Agusta Lindquist Nelson.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Thompson; and siblings, Martha, George, Ruth and Viola.
Mrs. Thompson was born in a sod house built by her father and uncle in northwest South Dakota (Harding County) and spoke Swedish until she moved to Minnesota at the age of five. She grew up in St. Paul & White Bear Lake and married Jesse Thompson in 1938. She lived in a number of U.S. cities including Willernie, Minnesota; Axtell, Nebraska; Tucson, Arizona ; and Manteca, Calif. She retired at the age of 85 and settled in Monticello with her son, Lynne and his family
She is survived by three sons, Lynne and his wife, Joyce of Monticello, Kirk of West Branch, Iowa, and Robin of Woodbury, Minnesota; one daughter, Jan of Kearney, Nebraska; one brother, Earl and his wife, Betty of West St. Paul, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Pat and wife, Dana; Keith and wife, Melanie and Jennifer; six great-grandchildren, Ashley, Cody, JP, Skylar, Matthew, and Parker; and one great-great-grandchild, Jacob.
A memorial service will scheduled at a later date.
