A fundraiser benefiting Jackie Nowlen and featuring Pine Bluff entertainer Doug Scallion will be held on May 6 in Monticello.
Nowlen, who worked in the radiology and nuclear healthcare profession at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello and Bradley County Medical Center in Warren, recently underwent lung transplant surgery.
“The surgery was successful and Jackie is recovering,” said Vicki Kelly, benefit organizer. “The average cost of a lung transplant is $550,000 which is only the beginning. Even with health insurance, Jackie and his family face significant expenses related to his surgery. For the rest of his life, Jackie will need follow-up care and vital anti-rejection medications. Jackie and his wife Linda, will continue to incur substantial expenses related to the transplant.”
At the fundraiser, Scallion will sing hit songs from the fifties and sixties, as well as gospel songs and Elvis Presley hits.
The event will be held on May 6 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the G-Plex SuBer Center located at 221 South Boyd in Monticello.
Funds from the event will help offset the costs associated with Nowlen’s transplant. While there will be no admission fee, attendees can make donations. Offerings will be collected at the event.
If you will not be attending the event and would like to help Nowlen, you may send a tax-deductible, secure online donation at the National Foundation for Transplants website. The link will take you directly to Nowlen’s transplant fund page.
