Gary “Mac” Draper would like you to know that his work here is done. He has tried his last case and a few weeks ago presented his last closing argument as he visited with Brother Lyle Hern, where he chose to spend eternal life in the presence of the Lord.
In his 75 years on this Earth, some of you remember him from the courtroom, at the pool, being on the receiving end of his wicked tennis serve, playing a heated ping pong match or catching him in a private “living room concert”, singing at the top of his lungs, with his Bose headphones on. But today, he is enjoying a heavenly song with his mother, Mary Willie and his father John Henry Draper, his sister Cynthia Fife and brother Richmond Vernon Draper.
Born on June 25, 1942 and leaving us on October 17, 2017. Gary left behind his wife of 28 years, Pat Draper; three daughters, Amanda Carol Draper of Washington, DC, Erin Elizabeth Draper of Las Vegas and Amy Blankenship of Crossett, mother of his beloved grandchildren, Morgan and Kinlee Blankenship; a nephew, John Draper of Georgia; his godson, William Matthew Moyers; and last but not least his fur baby, JoJo.
Gary was a graduate of Crossett High School, the University of Arkansas and the University of Arkansas Law School. He began his working career at Liberty Mutual Insurance as an adjuster where he found his passion for law. He was admitted to the Arkansas Bar in 1975 and began practicing law with Ovid Switzer and later began a partnership with Griffin, Rainwater & Draper where he practiced until 2014.
He was a member of the Arkansas Bar Association, Southeast Arkansas Legal Institute, Ashley County Bar Association and a member of ABOTA. He also served as Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for the Tenth Judicial District.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society, Crossett Library or charity of the donor’s choice.
Visitation is Friday, October 20, at 10 a.m. with services to follow at 11 a.m. at South Main Baptist Church. A private family burial will follow at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett, Arkansas.
