Star City Mayor Gene Yarbrough on Tuesday kicked off his campaign  for the District 10 State Representative seat. The newly redrawn District 10 includes portions of Lincoln, Drew, Cleveland, Jefferson and Grant counties in Southeast Arkansas.

County Judge Mark McElroy made brief comments to kick off the Star City event and Arkansas Municipal League director Don Zimmerman introduced Yarbrough to a crowd of about 250 to 300 that included a number of elected officials from Southeast Arkansas. The video (below) includes McElroy’s comments, Zimmerman’s introduction, and Yarbrough’s speech.

Yarbrough will face a candidate from Grant County and a candidate from Jefferson County in the Democratic Primary. Jefferson County Judge Mike Holcomb and Grant County resident Dorothy Hall, who is retired from the Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service, have both announced their intentions to seek the office. Redistricting has placed current District 10 State Representative Sheilla Lampkin into another district. She will run for the newly redrawn District 9 seat.
