Georgia Lee Blackmon, 96, of Dermott, died July 15, 2014 at the Madison Health and Rehabilitation Center in Little Rock.
Mrs. Blackmon was a native of Portland and a resident of Dermott for more than 46 years. She was a seamstress.
Mrs. Blackmon confessed a hope in Christ and joined the Pleasant Grove A.M.E. Church in Thebes in 1938. She later moved to Dermott and became a member of Holland Chapel A.M.E. Church in 1968. She served as secretary of Sunday School Church, quarterly conference, usher trustee, stewardess board, church treasurer, and was elected as secretary of trustee in 1970.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jasper and Pashion Bennett Blackmon.
Mrs. Blackmon is survived by an adopted son, Lewis Hardaway and wife, Brenda of Hensley; a godchild, Carrie Bagas and husband, Jimmy of Stockton, Calif.; a cousin, James Blakley and wife Bonita, of New York, NY, and a host of other cousins, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held July 22 at 10 a.m. at the Holland Chapel A.M.E. Church with Revs. Christopher Goodman and Daniel Franklin officiating.
Burial will be at Coleman’s Memorial Cemetery in Dermott under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home of Hamburg.
Honorary pallbearers are James Blakley, Howard Crockett, Ray Plumber, Howard Glass, Lewis Hardaway and Alonzo Myles.
