Gerald Floyd Clark, Sr.

Gerald Floyd Clark Sr., 81, of Madison County, Mississippi, passed away on November 24, 2021.

He was born Feb. 27, 1940, to Vernon Ira and Priscilla Ione Protho Clark in Mt. Vernon, Arkansas. He spent his early years helping with the family farm and trucking business before graduating from Dumas High School in 1959 and beginning a lifelong career of military service.

He is survived by his best friend and beloved spouse Rita Carole Clayton Clark, with whom he spent six decades traveling the world.

His time in the United States Air Force took the two to Terceira Island in the Azores; Fairbanks, Alaska.; Savannah, Ga.; Great Falls, Mont.; Bellevue, Neb.; Minot, N.D.; and Abilene, Tex. Gerald also served in Goose Bay, Labrador in Canada; Easter Island, Chile; and Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam during the Vietnam War.

He retired from active-duty service at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant after 20 years. Gerald spent another 20 years in civil service, retiring March 31, 2000, as the Flight Chief and Vehicle Maintenance Manager of the 2nd Transportation Squadron in the 2nd Bomb Wing at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, Louisiana.

Gerald was happiest when traveling with family and friends, tinkering in his shop, or playing with his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. He also enjoyed any time he spent outdoors — hunting, fishing, and gardening.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Ruby Nell Wood and Rabel Vaden, brother Robert Clark, and son Gregory Clayton Clark.

He is survived by brothers Pat Clark (Martha Lou) and Vernon Ira Clark Jr. (Rita); his sisters Elizabeth Goad (Dale) and Martha Southard (Benny); his son Jerry Clark (Michelle); grandchildren Joseph Clark (April), Lauren Clark, Joshua Clark (Laura), Logan Huckabee (Jacob), and Jake Clark; and great grandchildren Shepherd and Austin Clark.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Gerald’s life Saturday, Dec. 4 at the Griffin Funeral Home in Dumas, Ark. Visitation will begin at noon followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m. with burial following at Tillar Cemetery, Tillar, Arkansas.
