Gerald Wayne Morgan, 78, of Crossett, passed away on April 17, 2018, at his home.
He was born in Crossett on October 6, 1939 and was the son of the late John Wesley and Lillian Swan Morgan.
Mr. Morgan was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. He served proudly in the United States Marine Corps and worked for Georgia Pacific for 42 years, eventually retiring as a millwright in 2002. In his younger years, he was an amazing baseball player which ultimately led him to become a coach of Little League baseball for several years. He also enjoyed sharing his love of hunting and fishing with his two daughters and playing in the random neighborhood football games with the kids. He adored his family and his wife, Jackie, and could often be found socializing with his former co-workers around town. He was perfectly happy being at home tending to his place, his animals, including the deer that would often visit, and “George”, the hummingbird, who he patiently awaited the return of each year.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny N. Morgan, and Dewey Dean Morgan.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jackie Cummings Morgan of Crossett; two daughters, Donna Ortner and husband, Earl, of Franklin, Tennessee and Karen Higginbotham of Monticello; five grandchildren, Anessa Ortner, Drew Higginbotham, Joshua Ortner, Hope Higginbotham, and Max Ortner; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, April 20, at 10 a.m. at Medders Funeral Home, located at 1564 Hwy 52 W, in Crossett with Bro. Travis Roberts and Bro. Eric Hodge officiating, followed by an interment at Crossroads Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Bobby Hendrix, Tucker Ward, Earl Ortner, Josh Ortner, Max Ortner, and T.J. Joyner.
Honorary pallbearers are Lee Allen, John Pennington, Don Woods, Jewell Wayne Childers, Red Hendrix, and Doyle Glennon.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 19 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
