The second annual Go Red for Women Gala to raise awareness of heart disease will be held February 6 at the John F. Gibson Center on the University of Arkansas at Monticello campus.
Heart disease continues to be the number one killer of all women, taking more lives than the next four leading causes of death combined, including all forms of cancer. While one in 31 women will die from breast cancer each year, one in three women will lose their lives to heart disease. The good news is that up to 80 percent of cardiovascular disease is largely preventable, which is what makes awareness initiatives so critical.
Women are invited to dress up in their finest red outfits and join others at the Go Red Gala for an evening of fun, food, entertainment and education featuring heart healthy hors d’ oevures, door prizes and heart health checks. The keynote speaker will be Dr. David Jones of Arkansas Cardiology in Little Rock.
The 2-hour event begins at 5:30 p.m. There is no admission charge, but reservations are required. Those interested in attending must reserve their seat no later than January 31. To reserve a seat, call Pollyanna Burt Elton at 870-853-7181.
