The third annual Southeast Arkansas Health Foundation Golf Tournament raised more than $22,000 for Drew Memorial Hospital.
The four-person scramble, held at the Harbor Oaks Golf Course in Pine Bluff on April 1, included 24 teams.
“Each year we’ve raised more money than the last year’s tournament,” said Stephanie Norris, who has served as executive director of the Foundation since 2013. “Our goal this year was to beat 2015 significantly – we hoped to raise $20,000 – an increase of $7,000 from last year.”
After the sponsorships, team entry fees, and Mulligan sales were finalized, the organization saw its best year yet, but the tabulating did not stop there. At the awards ceremony following the tournament, the Southeast Arkansas Health Foundation Board presented cash prizes to the top three teams in two flights. Each of the six teams who placed chose to donate their winnings back to the Foundation.
“It was a wonderful surprise,” Norris said.
The winners included Cablevision (first place, first flight), Dow (second place, first flight), Akin Industries (third place, first flight), Union Bank (first place, second flight), Reggie’s Lock & Key (second place, second flight) and Emergency Staffing Solutions (third place, second flight).
The event ultimately raised more than $22,000 which will be used to purchase medical equipment, help patients with medical care expenses, and increase access to health care in Southeast Arkansas.
