Gould Mayor Earnest Nash Jr. has been charged with abuse of office, obstructing governmental operations, theft of property, and two counts of nonfeasance in office.

Prosecutors allege that the mayor illegally prohibited City Recorder-Treasurer Pamela Barley-Gibson from taking office and performing her duties, violated a city ordinance when he authorized payments from the city’s general fund and a disaster fund, altered court records without authorization, and converted $520 of court funds to his own use in 2003 while serving as the City Court clerk, and falsified court records.

The charges are all misdemeanors but Nash could be removed from office if convicted.
