Grady Shivers, Sr., 81, of Crossett, died May 23, 2014 at his residence.
Mr. Shivers was a native of Strong and a resident of Crossett for over 50 years. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and worked for the Georgia-Pacific Corporation for 35 years before retiring in 1992.
He was a faithful member of the Pine Forest Missionary Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather. He also was an avid fisherman, gardener and hunter.
Mr. Shivers was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Artie Berry Shivers; two brothers, Thomas and Dewitt Shivers and a sister, Claudette Blasengame.
He is survived his wife of 57 years, Maedean Crawford Shivers; two sons, Grady Colvin Shivers and wife, Lea Ann, all of Crossett; Don Shivers and wife, Susie, of Bastrop, La.; a sister, Monte Ford of Crossett; two granddaughters, Whitney Gill and husband, Chris, of Crossett and Courtney Ferebee and husband, Parker, of Tyler, Texas; a sister-in-law, Mardelle Henley and husband, Philip, of Monticello and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held May 26 at 2 p.m. at the Pine Forest Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Jerry Carter and Bro. Willie Thornhill officiating. Visitation will be at the church on May 25 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Burial will be at Pinewood Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Tony Lee, Charlie Hicks, Anthony Adcock, Blaine Smyth, Curtis McDill and Brent Henley. Honorary pallbearers are William Coleman, Burl Toler, Joe Eubanks, Dennis Banks, Mershall Carpenter, Rex Brown, Buster Slayter, Sammy Curran, Billy Wayne McLeod, Bryce Moon, Richard Berry, Ronnie Berry, Philip Henley, Bobby Jenkins, Larry Goodwin, Eddie Payne, Roy Grantham, Bennie Swan and Ricky Babb.
